1. Oliver
We're not sure what it is about the name Oliver that works so well for cats, but hundreds of thousands of cat owners across the country can all agree that it simply just works. There are so many feline friends with this name, we wouldn't be surprised if you already know one.
2. Bella
Apparently everyone just sees Bella as a "fits everyone" kind of name! Not only is this a popular name for baby girls, it turns out, it's just as commonly used for cats. And while it is beautiful-sounding one with such a gentle feel, we do feel it's far too overused these days. Why not go for something more different and fresh?
3. Felix
It's not hard to see how Felix has become such a popular cat name among owners; there's something inherently fun and lively about it that perfectly matches the mysterious nature of our furry friends. But don't forget there are other names out there that can accomplish the same feeling. Felix is a great one, but do you really want a name every other cat on your street is using too?
4. Whiskers
As with most pet names, some people prefer to go simple and straightforward. It doesn't get as plain as Whiskers though, right? While it is a cute one, it isn't very original and could easily apply to many different furry animals. Instead, we recommend going for something that feels a bit more personal and well-suited for your specific cat!
5. Tiger
We're not sure a name as ferocious as Tiger is the most fitting for your domesticated cat. While we understand the theory behind it, and it does give off a cool vibe, your cat that sleeps for 16 hours a day doesn't quite give off the beastly and majestic feel this jungle animal gives.
6. Luna
Another popular and pretty name for female cats, we can see why Luna became such a common pick. Given that cats are often associated with the moon and this name translates into just that, the two seem perfect for one another. While that might be true, it's hard to call it perfect for your cat if thousands of others feel the same way about theirs too.
7. Buttons
Innocent and sweet, Buttons is a go-to cat name for many owners because of its simplicity yet adorable nature. It's a name that could easily work on any cat too, making it a reliable one if people are desperate for a name. And while it is cute, we know you could come up with something even more creative.
8. Fluffy
Plain and simple, remember? Fluffy can easily apply to any pet, whether you've got a cat, dog, or hamster - any animal with fur will do! And while that does make it a wide-ranging name, it simultaneously makes it unoriginal and way too overused too.
9. Stripes
Speaking of unoriginal, tell us you looked at your cat and gave them a name without telling us directly. If your cat has stripes and you named it, well, Stripes, it's definitely specific to your cat, but it's not exactly the most inspiring.
10. Loki
As the God of Mischief in Norse mythology and made popular thanks to Marvel Studios, Loki quickly skyrocketed in popularity as a great name for cats. And it makes sense - cats are incredibly playful, mysterious, and tricksy pets! But if you're using this name now, we're sad to say that there's thousands of cat owners way ahead of you.
1. Boots
If you have a cat where their paws are covered in darker fur compared to the rest of their body, you have the perfect opportunity to name your pet Boots. It's incredibly specific to your cat and is simply an adorable option you just can't pass up.
2. Muffin
Food names are always a good route to go down when naming your pets! That's because many of these ediible items have a cute quality that's emphasized even further when used on our furry friends. Muffin is a great example of this - how cute does a kitten named Muffin sound?
3. Snickers
A favorite chocolate bar for many in America, Snickers also doubles as a charming name for a cat, especially if they have black or brown fur (or both!). Maybe it's because it almost rhymes with Whiskers, but it has a familiar and comforting quality to it that sounds like it belongs more for a cat than a candy bar.
4. Simba
Fan of The Lion King? If straightforward names like Tiger didn't match your vibe, why not get inspiration from your favorite childhood Disney films? Simba is a memorable name that holds a lot of power, perfect for any owner looking to respect the iconic film while giving their cat a strong name that feels timeless.
5. Misty
It's hard to explain, but there's a mysterious quality to the name Misty that sounds so fitting for any cat. It's likely not a name you've considered before, but now that you've heard it, what do you think? It's certainly different from the standard Fluffys and Buttons!
6. Shadow
Sneaky like a ninja, many cats lurk around in the shadows in ways dogs just can't. Get the idea? If you're not a fan of cutesy names and prefer something a bit cooler and edgy, Shadow might just be right up your alley. It's definitely a plus if your cat has a dark coat of fur!
7. Sleepy
Who says you can't get inspiration from childhood classics? From Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, look to the dwarves for some cute name ideas! For instance, if you've got a cat that can't help but sleep and lie down for hours on end, Sleepy might just be a great name you never considered before.

8. Almond
Some cats have these gorgeous and wide almond-shaped eyes that are so lovely to look at - so why not name them after it? Food names have always been popular options for pets, but if you want something a bit more creative than "Cupcake," consider "Almond!"
9. Grumpy
Some cats have permanent adorable frowny faces that really add to their charm. If you're a cat owner with a furry friend exactly like that, why not call them Grumpy? Not only is it perfectly fitting, there's something incredibly cute about the name that we know all your friends would love.
10. Selene
If Luna is used way too much but you still want a name associated with the moon, you'll be happy to learn there are plenty out there! Take Selene for example, in Greek mythology, this name also means moon! It's the best of both worlds: the same meaning but more unique and distinct.
